Black and white manger scene and the star of Bethlehem.  These are universal Christian symbols of the essential meaning of Christmas.

The Bible teaches us that God's eternal Son entered this world as a human child, the first born son of a virgin girl named Mary.  When He was born, Mary lay the infant Jesus in a manger, having first wrapped Him in cloth.  Mary, Joseph and Jesus were in a stable, not in a proper room, because there was no room for them in the inn.

What we now call the star of Bethlehem was a sign in the night sky that got the attention of Magi in the east, and led them to Judea, and eventually to Bethlehem, where Mary and Joseph were staying with the child Jesus.  This may have been as much as two years after the actual birth of Jesus.   We get this information from the Gospel accounts in the New Testament, where Herod ordered the children of Bethlehem, aged two years and under, put to death.
