To be a true follower of Jesus Christ is to be born again at some point. The new birth is not a religious ritual or a status to be bestowed by the church in recognition for certain words recited or acts accomplished. A person is born again when they are regenerated spiritually by God's own Holy Spirit. They are made truly alive to God, as a divine act of grace, in response to their faith in Jesus Christ. They become new creatures, children of God, citizens of the kingdom of God.

True Christian youth are not the same as other young people. They have been born again and have become actual children of God. This means they now have a new nature. When a person is born again, their own spirit is made alive to God, but there's more. The Holy Spirit of God comes to indwell them. This is the power of God on earth, alive and active in His people.

Yes, born-again youth are still people. In many ways, they have become truly human again, as Adam and Eve were before they sinned in the Garden of Eden. It was always God intention that human beings should have a real relationship with Him. Now, through Jesus Christ (because of what He accomplished for us on the cross (see Colossians, chapters 1 and 2), we may once again become God's people, God's children.

Can a born-again youth make wrong choices, act like anyone else? Yes. They are still human in every way. But now they have the ability to please God, to truly reject sin and choose to do God's will. The Holy Spirit within enables them to love God, to serve God, to please God.
